$4.00. 1900. Dominion of Canada Unique 14-piece Note Development Collection. This unique collection was once a part of the American Bank Note Company Archives. The complete set of artifacts illustrates the making of the 1900 Dominion of Canada $4 bank note, from design to distribution. The front design features the portraits of The Earl of Minto, Gilbert John Elliot-Murray-Kynynmound (Governor General of Canada 1898-1904) and his wife, Mary Caroline Grey. The design also highlights the Sault Ste. Marie Locks system, which was completed in 1895, forming the last link in an all-Canadian navigation system stretching from the St. Lawrence River to Lake Superior. At the time, it was the world's longest locks and the first to operate with electrical power.
